How I met my guide.

Ten years ago, my first trip to Bali started with a classic tourist nightmare: falling victim to a shady cash exchange scam. Even though he wasn't my guide that day, he rushed over to help me sort it out and get my money back.

That was a decade ago, and every trip back still starts with a WhatsApp to the same trusted local guide. He he takes care of your entire journey from start to finish — coordinating every driver, boat, table, and ticket through people he's known his whole life. Bali is generally very safe on its own, but your guide provides an unmatched level of full-service care and security. Your trip goes straight to him, not a call center. You'll arrive as clients and leave the way I did: as friends.

Questions, answered.

How much does Third Trip cost?

Planning is free, and your itinerary is yours to use however you like. If you add a ThirdTrip Guide, they earn a standard local commission from the providers they book — the same rates you'd pay walking in off the street, often better. You never pay above local prices, and there are no platform fees.

Is Bali safe?

Generally, very — Bali is one of Southeast Asia's most traveled destinations. The common headaches are small: dodgy money changers, taxi overcharging, rental scams. Adding a ThirdTrip Guide removes that entire category — every driver, boat and booking comes through people he's known his whole life.

How do payments work?

You book your own flights and accommodations. Going DIY, you book activities directly with providers. With a ThirdTrip Guide, activities and transport are confirmed for you, and most are paid on the ground in rupiah or by transfer — he confirms exact terms for each booking in your travel log before you commit to anything.

Do I need a visa?

Most nationalities get a visa on arrival (about $35, 30 days) right at the Bali airport — no advance paperwork. Double-check your country's rules before flying.

When's the best time to go?

Dry season runs May through October — July and August are the clearest and busiest. The green season (November–March) is lush and quieter, with short afternoon showers. The planner flags what season your dates fall in.

What's included in the price estimate?

Your private driver, every transfer (cars and fast boats), and tickets for the tours and attractions in your plan. Not included: flights, accommodations, meals, and on-the-ground spends like day clubs or spa treatments. If you add a guide, they confirm final local pricing before you commit — often lower than the estimate.

Can I change the plan once the trip starts?

Yes. DIY, the plan is yours to reshuffle freely. With a ThirdTrip Guide, message the travel log or WhatsApp and they reshuffles drivers, boats and bookings around your change, even mid-trip.

Is getting to the Gilis and Lombok complicated?

Not with it arranged for you: a private car to Padang Bai harbor and a morning fast boat (about 1.5–2 hours) — book a morning boat with a reputable operator (or let a guide handle it) and it times around calm seas. If you end in Lombok, you can fly home from Lombok's airport instead of backtracking to Bali.
